Durational performance work

A durational performance in which the artist, using felt pens and paint, writes across the surface – window, facia and adjoining pavement - of the gallery on and off over the course of 3 days. The writing is mostly in Farsi and is semi-autobiographical, describing something of his physical and emotional journey from Iran to the UK and to where he now finds himself. He writes in response to the ‘presentness’ of this encounter and moment, to being there in the middle of the night, pen in hand, not having slept for 24 hours. His performance is one of subterfuge, deception and duplicity in how it conceals as much as it reveals and how the artist describes something of an attitude or identity cultivated mostly through necessity.
